17 November, 2022

Metro de Madrid is engaged in strategic projects to overhaul, modernize and legalize the low voltage installations in the oldest stations and facilities of its network to ensure that they conform with regulations. This requires the updating and renovation of the electrical installations, as well as the corresponding legalization procedures.

Inse Rail, along with seven other companies, was selected to carry out these actions, as part of framework agreement signed with Metro de Madrid in February 2019, under which Inse Rail has already executed five support contracts to provide technical assistance to Metro de Madrid in the El Carmen, Puerta de Toledo, Pirámides, Carabanchel and Estación del Arte stations.

These last two contracts make a total of seven Metro de Madrid stations in which Inse Rail will provide its services to overhaul and modernize the energy distribution facilities, which include the subsystems of transformer substations (CTS), general low voltage switchboards (CGBT), low-voltage emergency voltage (ABS), tunnel lighting (ILT), station lighting (ILE), and industrial facility lighting (ILD).

Opening of the Cadiz Bay-Tram

27 October, 2022

This Wednesday, after an investment of 267 million euros, the Cadiz Bay tram started running to link the towns of Cadiz, San Fernando and Chiclana.

The route is 24 kilometers long and includes 21 stops. It will service a population of 234,000 inhabitants located less than a thousand meters away from a stop.

The tram-bahía is a bimodal public transport system that combines the best of trains and trams. It is the first time that a vehicle designed to travel in urban areas has carried passengers on the national railway network.

The vehicles are designed to withstand encounters with high-performance trains, allowing them to travel on the railway, reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour and reducing the travel time from one municipality to another. They have a system of doors, windows and ventilation designed to be able to go from a minimum speed on the route through the historic center to crossing paths with trains at 160 km/hour.

They also have a dual power supply system to adapt to both sections, and the interior is divided into different heights separated by ramps or steps, which is the only way for passengers to get on and off at both the train stops and in the city.

It is also the only train in Spain with elastic wheels, unlike the metal wheels that Renfe uses.

The project design began two decades ago and the works started 16 years ago. The technical complexity multiplied the planned investment and delayed implementation multiple times.

Inse Rail, in a joint venture with TPF Getinsa and Aertec, has been involved in this important project since 2010, as the construction manager of energy installations, signaling and communications systems, and workshop and depot equipment.

Adif allocates 22.3 m€ to advance the modernization of the Barcelona-Girona-Portbou line

28 August, 2022

Adif is developing a new investment, for more than 22.3 million euros, to advance the modernization of the infrastructure and railway facilities of the Barcelona-Girona-Portbou conventional gage line.

This investment will be used to install a new security and communications system on the Figueres-Portbou section, which is one of the actions in the Rodalies Plan.

Specifically, the system known as the Automatic Two-Way Track Block System (BAB) will be installed on this route. This state-of-the-art equipment allows trains to travel equally in both directions on either trac.

In addition to increasing the capacity conditions of railway operation, it also improves operation and flexibility in train movements, increasing the reliability of the installations and the regularity of traffic. It also increases the commercial speed and decreases the impact in case of incidents.

Inse Rail, in consortium with Airtren, will be in charge of executing the technical assistance services during the execution of the works.

The estimated completion time is 25 months, with 6 months corresponding to the drafting and approval of the project and the other 19 to the execution of the works.

Some of the most important operations include new installations for computer systems to manage and regulate traffic, as well as for train detection equipment, digital ASFA (Automatic Braking and Signal Announcement), fixed LED signaling lights, and the integration of the facilities into Barcelona’s Centralized Traffic Control (CTC).

It also includes actions in the energy supply system for future installations and additional works on conduits and auxiliary civil works.

Metro de Málaga awards Inse Rail, in consortium with Betancourt Ingenieros, the final contract to bring the metro to the Center.

14 March, 2022

The Junta de Andalucía has awarded the consortium the contract to coordinate handover of the final works to the concessionaire and the commissioning of the section from El Perchel to La Alameda.

The long-awaited arrival of the Malaga metro to the city center is quickly approaching. While it awaits the first cars that will soon run from El Perchel to Alameda Principal in the test phase, with the official opening expected next August, the Junta de Andalucía has just awarded the final pending contract: the coordination of the remaining works and the plan to integrate the section into the rest of the suburban network.

The joint venture formed by Inse Rail and Betancourt Ingenieros was awarded the contract for 1.3 million euros. The completion period is one year, although the Department of Public Works clarifies that this is “a maximum deadline and includes the warranty period, so it is neither indicative nor significant”.

The contract for ‘Technical assistance services to coordinate the works for the handover to the concessionaire and supervise commissioning’ of the central sections basically consists of verifying proper execution of the works, installations and railway signaling systems on the route, which runs under Callejones del Perchel and Avenida de Andalucía, ending at Alameda Principal.

This will be the last step to hand over the works to the operating company for the upcoming commissioning. It requires complying with the guarantee required by the concessionaire to ensure that the work that it will receive complies with all of the requirements.

The Airtren-Inse Rail consortium to provide the technical assistance for the works for the new Asfa Digital frequencies

5 February, 2021

Adif has contracted the Airten/Inse Rail consortium to provide the technical assistance for the supervision and control of the works for the broadcasting of the new Asfa Digital frequencies for stop pre-announcement, caution announcement and stop limit zone control aspects.

The project will improve safety by automating the indications and extending train control along the line. To do this, new type L5, L6 and double L7 digital balises, which enable Phase 2 functionality to the Asfa system as a whole, will be installed

Up to this point, in Phase 1, the stop pre-announcement and caution announcement indications are transmitted with thebalise on L1 together with the stop announcement indication at the Signal, requiring the train driver toselect in the onboard equipment the indication that corresponds to the aspect of the signal that they are going to pass andwill see.

To avoid errors and make driving more efficient, the new digital balises generate the frequenciesL5 and L6, automatically indicating the stop pre-announcement and caution announcement on-board without driver intervention, leaving L1 exclusively for the stop announcement indication. This is what is known asPhase 2 of Asfa operation.

Tools

The contracted consortium has proposed the use of the Daco software tool, an applicationdeveloped specifically for the technical assistance of installation projects. The tool is based on theSIFER application for inspection of railway technical installations and recording in a database, withgeoreferencing of photographs and associated documents, and is already used for the StateRailway Safety Agency.

In addition, the Asfa Tool train movement simulator will be used as a tool for design control, monitoring to ensure that the Asfa balises are correctly positioned on the line and that there are no “nesting” problems withother balises that could disturb the train speed control.

Inse Rail is collaborating on the modernization of the stations of Metro de Madrid

17 December, 2018

The Metro de Madrid network will have USB chargers in all of its stations at the start of 2019. With this measure, Metro de Madrid fulfills its commitment to improve the travel experience and quality of its users.

Inse Rail is collaborating with Metro de Madrid taking on the functions of monitoring, inspection and quality control of the entire implementation and validation process of the chargers that is being executed throughout the network. The new chargers of Madrid’s subway will incorporate the latest fast charge technology (up to four times faster than a standard charger), with each station equipped with 4 boxes with 2 Type A female USB charging plugs each (2 boxes per platform).

The system will be powered by the supply network of Metro de Madrid. To guarantee the safety of the devices, all of the chargers will be equipped with integrated protection that detects the lack of 5V voltage at the outlet or short-circuits, thus protecting the cable from possible current overloads. Furthermore, additional external protections have been installed outside the chargers. In stations that have vitrified panels, cables will be run internally, hiding them behind these panels, and inside steel pipes anchored to the wall in those stations that do not have vitrified panels.

These devices will also be installed progressively in the entire fleet of trains of Metro de Madrid, where free green energy generated by the braking of the trains will be used to recharge the devices.

Inse Rail is developing this project for the Energy and Signaling Engineering Service of Metro de Madrid. This close collaboration also includes the projects executed for the Installations, Control and Telecommunications Engineering Service.
