Metro de Madrid awards Inse Rail supervision of the works to renovate signaling on Line 7A

10 September, 2024

To improve the quality, maintainability and operational safety of Metro de Madrid’s operating network, an Action Plan has been established for the technological renovation of obsolescent signaling systems that contain contaminating substances, replacing them with state-of-the-art electronic interlockings.

As part of this plan, METRO has planned the execution of the comprehensive renovation works of the signaling system on line 7A, between the Estadio Metropolitano and Pitis stations, to provide the line with a high-performance, high-availability Target Distance signaling system that will make it possible to remove obsolescent equipment. The actions affect 20 kilometers of tunnel and 27 stations.

Inse Rail will supervise the execution of the installations works that will be carried out at night without interrupting service, and five periods of service interruption of approximately 92 hours each planned during 2024/2025. This means that the coordination of the works, both during the periods with service and during the planned closings, will be critical for the execution of the work.

Inse Rail, awarded the contract to supervise the works of the Atocha transit station, in consortium with three other engineering firms

3 July, 2024

Adif Alta Velocidad has awarded the engineering consortium made up of Inse Rail, Grusamar, Eptisa and GOC the contract to supervise the works of the future Atocha transit station that will allow trains that leave from Chamartín Station to stop at Madrid’s southern terminal, and will also expand the terminal’s capacity.

The supervision contract has a budget of 17.7 million euros and a completion time of 7.5 years.

This is the final action in the railway manager’s ambitious plan to expand the capacity of the high-speed network, and will turn Madrid “into one large train station with two terminals, Atocha and Chamartín”. It will connect the high-speed tunnel that passes through Madrid from north to south with the route used by trains from Barcelona and Andalusia, enabling them to continue to destinations in the north of the Peninsula.

The transit station will be located underground beneath the existing Puerta de Atocha station and Calle Méndez Álvaro. It will have four new tracks and two platforms, and although the execution involves a “high degree of technical complexity”, train traffic will not have to be cut off. It will have two entrances: one, to the north, from the existing terminal and another to the south, to give access to the Méndez Álvaro area, where an intermode platform for taxis, VTCs and private vehicles will be installed. The northern part of Puerta de Atocha will also be remodeled.

The project will be carried out on several levels: the platforms will be located at an elevation of 600 meters; above that, at 607 meters, there will be two boarding halls to the north and south, as well as the connecting walkways. The southern lobby of Méndez Álvaro will be located on an upper floor, at 611 meters and will include the taxi stand; and at 624 meters it will connect with the first floor of the Puerta de Atocha departure lobby. The underground station will also include a central skylight and a curtain wall.

Inse Rail awarded the contract to supervise the control, command and signaling works of the high-speed access channel to Valencia

28 May, 2024

The works will adapt these facilities to the new road configuration associated with the Access Channel.

This contract includes the adaptation of the management system for the Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla traffic and the Regulation and Control Center for the high-speed line, among other facilities; as well as the procedure for trains to enter and exit on the connection between Joaquín Sorolla and Valencia-Nord.

New signaling and other field elements of the safety and communications equipment will also be installed, including track circuits, axle counters, balises and fallen-object detectors, in addition to technical verifications and testing.

The Valencia Access Channel project and the remodeling of the Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla station are key operations to integrate the railway into Valencia.

The tunneling of the access roads to the two stations in Valencia will free up land for city development. The Joaquín Sorolla station will also be transformed – including the expansion of its parking – to handle the increased demand as a result of the from the deregulation of rail services and the development of the Mediterranean Corridor.

Inse Rail to supervise the track overhaul and gage adaptation works in the Bobadilla – Ronda section

24 May, 2024

Inse Rail has been awarded the contract to supervise the works to renovate the 43 km of track in the Bobadilla-Ronda. This investment is an important step forward in the renovation and modernization of the conventional railway line between Bobadilla-Algeciras (176 km), between the provinces of Málaga and Cádiz.

The action, which is being executed through Adif, will replace all of the track elements (ballast, sleepers and rail) in the section with new and improved elements.

The dimensions of the overpasses will also be adapted to accommodate the poles and equipment for the future electrification of the line, and infrastructure, different points on the route and the drainage system will be reinforced.

This action moves forward with the comprehensive renovation plan of the Bobadilla-Algeciras line, which also includes the installation and electrification of a third rail, and the expansion of sidings.

Inse Rail to supervise the works for the reorganization of the new track arrangement in Atocha station

25 April, 2024

Inse Rail, in a joint venture with the company Grusamar, will supervise the works promoted by Adif to reorganize the tracks of the Atocha Cercanías station with the implementation of a new arrangement (4+4+2) that will improve the management of the railway traffic of the station.

The action is part of the Madrid Cercanías Plan and will increase the capacity of the C-3 and C-4 lines that run through the Sol tunnel. It will also expand platform 5 that serves passengers on line C-5.

New 4+4+2 track arrangement
The changing of the tracks to a 4+4+2 arrangement in the northern header station will assign tracks 1 to 4 to the Recoletos tunnel, tracks 5 to 8 to the Sol tunnel and tracks 9 and 10 to the Embajadores tunnel. It will also allow track 8 to be used as a siding track for line C-5 in the event of an incident.

Likewise, platform 5, which serves tracks 9 and 10, will be extended and widened to increase its capacity and use it for passengers to get on and off line C-5 in both traffic directions.

The Atocha Cercanías station currently has ten tracks with platforms in a 4+3+3 configuration, so this remodeling represents a significant change that will improve the movement of the most heavily used lines.

The Cercanías commuter trains are the ones that travel through Atocha the most, but the movement of Medium and Long Distance trains may also be affected in the future.

Inse Rail participates in the opening of the extension of the Malaga metro to the historic city center

28 March, 2023

On Tuesday, March 27, 2023, a large delegation headed by the president of the Regional Government, Juanma Moreno; the Councilor of Development, Marifrán Carazo and the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, among others, officially opened the route between the stations of Alameda Principal (Atarazanas) and El Corte Inglés (Guadalmedina), kicking off commercial operation of the metro in the center of Málaga.

In addition to political representatives, the event was also attended by citizens, merchants and residents in the area, representatives of the concessionaire company, Metro de Málaga and the companies that participated in the project, including Inse Rail.

Inse Rail’s President, Cesar Cañedo-Argüelles and the Director of the Industrial Division, Oscar Domingo, who oversaw the contract executed by Inse Rail for the Regional Government of Andalusia since March 2022, in consortium with the company Betancourt, were in attendance to represent the company. The purpose of the consortium was to coordinate the most recent works and facilities of the Málaga Metro and to supervise the commissioning before handover to the concessionaire.

The new extension section of the Málaga Metro to the historic city center is one kilometer long, although, since both lines merge between El Perchel and Guadalmedina, the actual infrastructure built is 1.7 kilometers long, with two new underground stations: Guagalmedina and Atarazanas. With this new route, user demand is expected to double from approximately 7 million  to 14 million passengers per year, and continue to offer improvements that strengthen this comfortable, safe and environmentally friendly means of metropolitan transport.
