Country: Spain

Year: 2020- 2021

The Santa Catalina II Maintenance Base (commissioned in 2011), which has a four positions for maintenance of 200m-long trains, was created after the start of activity on the Madrid-Valencia AVE line in 2010, to cover its top-level maintenance needs at the head of the line.

The Maintenance Base currently has high levels of occupation, both in the maintenance positions and on the tracks, saturating and conditioning rolling stock maintenance activities.

Inse Rail, in a joint venture with Ofitep, is drafting the construction project for the extension of the existing Santa Catalina II high-speed train maintenance workshop, together with the track yard at the south end of the line and the complementary electrification facilities, as a leading company in railway systems (energy, electrification, signaling and communications) and track design.

The Construction Project to be prepared will provide a complete technical definition of the works necessary for the commissioning of the new level-one workshop, including the railway infrastructure elements (track, electrification and safety and signaling installations), building elements and urban development elements (drainage, roads, connections, etc.) and all of the installations necessary for the complete operation of a maintenance complex of these characteristics.

The expansion will provide the following advantages:

  • A capacity of 4 new train positions (equivalent for a maintained fleet of between 16 and 24 trains)
  • The use of part of the infrastructure and means of production deployed in the existing Maintenance Base, minimizing the investment in certain aspects.
