Inse Rail to draft the construction project for the new Ripoll maintenance base

22 February, 2024

The COPISA-CRC-INFESA joint venture, which was awarded the contract to build the future Maintenance Base at the Ripoll station, has commissioned Inse Rail to draft the construction project for the new workshop.

The scope of the project, which will be developed using the BIM methodology, includes the design of the workshop’s north and south connections, the maintenance and repair workshop itself, as well as the track yard and peripheral / bypass track for parking trains.

This project, which is part of the Renfe Workshop Plan, will have an investment of 14.4 million euros and a completion time of 10 months. It is expected to be operational in the second half of 2024 to provide maintenance service to the units traveling on the R3 line of Rodalies de Catalunya.

The construction of the new Ripoll Maintenance Base will make it possible to carry out small-scope repairs and servicing on the trains without having to return to their main base, reducing service incidents for Rodalies de Catalunya and the time vehicles spend to and from the workshop.

Inse Rail adds another important reference to its extensive experience in workshops and railway maintenance bases. It is currently planning ADIF’s first workshop in the Madrid – Sur maintenance sub-base, and Alstom’s new maintenance base in Santa Perpetua de Mogoda for Alstom, and the overhaul of the Vilapicina workshop for TMB.

Inse Rail recently designed RENFE’s new Fuencarral II high-speed workshop and the expansions of the Self-propelled workshop and the Santa Catalina II maintenance base, and also provided Project Management for the construction and commissioning of the Medina maintenance workshop on the Haramain high-speed line in Saudi Arabia.

Inse Rail and Bews to design the project to extend the Diagonal – Baix Llobregat tram to the center of Sant Feliu de Llobregat

28 March, 2023

The Autoritat del Transport Metropolitá de Barcelona (ATM) has awarded the joint venture Inse Rail – Bews the contract to draft the informational study and the final project design of the alternative chosen to extend the Diagonal – Baix Llobregat tram to the center of Sant Feliu de Llobregat.

The informational study will define two alternatives based on preliminary studies, which will incorporate the results of the compatibility studies of the tram alternatives with the most recent project to move the railway line underground and the movement of the terminal stop, updating the route characteristics.

The guidelines from the international call for ideas carried out by the City Council that affect the definition of the alternatives will also be incorporated and must be consistent in the indications of the master urban development plan that will include the changes in the urban planning of the city after moving the line underground.

The alternatives will analyze the new points of view of traffic and mobility, functionality, urban compatibility, tramway operation, existing and affected services, energy supply, environmental compatibility and economy, with sufficient precision to be able to submit the study for public consultation.

At the request of the City Council, a third alternative or variant of the previous two will be considered to include the possibility of a third additional stop closer to the El Pla industrial park.

After the most favorable alternative in terms of sustainability and the objectives of the action has been selected and approved by the ATM, the Inse Rail – Bews joint venture will draft the construction project, including the tramway installation and the urban development of the surrounding area.

Both the planning phase (informational study) and the design phase (construction project) will be developed with BIM methodology.

Inse Rail to draft the project for the railway station of the Alicante airport

7 February, 2023

Inse Rail, in a joint venture, has been awarded the contract by ADIF to draft the construction project for the new railway access to the Alicante airport, which includes the infrastructure, track, platforms and the new passenger station. The expected completion time for the drafting of the project is 24 months.

The railway access to El Altet Airport involves the construction of a bypass on the conventional, non-electrified line between Murcia and Alicante, with a platform equipped with multi-purpose sleepers for a final configuration of 2 UIC tracks. The access to be designed will connect to the Murcia-Alicante line near the Torrellano Station after the line enters the municipality of Alicante, with an approximate length of 4.75 Km.

The most important part of the project is the new station at the airport. Its underground design includes both the civil works of the cavern as well as its architecture, in addition to all of the non-railway facilities, on the land that is currently owned by AENA.

An important aspect to be taken into account is that the access point for travelers coming from the new station has already been defined in the airport’s new terminal.

Before and after the station, the route also runs underground between retaining walls, to eliminate the impact on the N-338 highway and the entrance road to the airport that would be generated by the construction of a rail access on the surface.

The section of underground tunnel between the retaining walls to the west of the station will be approximately 825 m long and the one located to the east, 333 m.

Adif approves Inse Rail’s construction project to undertake the first phase of the expansion, remodeling and improvement of the Valencia-Fuente de San Luis intermodal terminal

29 July, 2022

Adif has approved an investment of EUR 22,175,679.8 to undertake the first phase of the expansion, remodeling and improvement of the Valencia-Fuente de San Luis intermodal terminal, which is part of the network of strategic intermodal nodes with which Adif seeks to fully integrate rail into the transport chain.

The main purpose of this expansion is to provide the terminal with the necessary infrastructure and services to turn it into a large rail freight logistics area in Valencia to complement the existing ones in the port and thus boost intermodal freight traffic, creating resilient and sustainable infrastructure and helping to reduce the carbon footprint of freight traffic.

The Board of Directors of Adif has agreed to tender these works, which have an execution period of 12 months, in accordance with the indications of the Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy 2030, presented by MITMA, which proposes to effectively increase rail freight transport through the promotion of strategic intermodal nodes located on priority freight axes.

The intermodal and logistics terminal at Valencia Fuente de San Luis has a strong international dimension. It is located in the Mediterranean Corridor, next to the Puerto de Valencia, and forms part of the Trans-European Transport Network. It constitutes a key strategic node that favors interconnection, interoperability and intermodality of transport services, which will enable the circulation of standard gauge trains between Valencia and the French border. In addition, this terminal is linked to the development of the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) of the Port of Valencia and Mercavalencia.

For these reasons, it requires optimal infrastructure and equipment and the possibility of offering first class intermodal and logistic services, allowing the handling of 750 m long trains, both conventional gauge (1,668 mm) and standard gauge (1,435 mm).

These actions are part of the agreement signed in 2019 by the Ministry of Development, the Regional Government of Valencia, Valencia City Council, Adif, Puertos del Estado and the Port Authority of Valencia for the development of the terminal, with the aim of making it a strategic peninsular node in the distribution of goods. This agreement allows for cooperation in making the land and financial contributions necessary for the construction of the terminal.
