Metro de Madrid is upgrading the signaling system on line 5, between the Alameda de Osuna and Casa de Campo stations, in order to equip the line with technology that will improve the line’s performance in terms of operation, maintenance, and safety.

In addition, work will be done to upgrade the electrification installations (catenary), tunnel lighting, two traction centers, radiant cable, and TETRA digital trunked radio-telephony.

As part of this contract, Inse Rail is providing the Technical Assistance to Metro de Madrid’s Project Management, to provide supervision and quality control of the re-signaling work, implementation of rigid catenary, actions on the energy systems, implementation of the TETRA system, and communications upgrade on Line 5 of Metro de Madrid.

The scope of the work includes:

  • Development, construction, installation, and commissioning of the Complete Works for the Signaling system, ATP (Target Distance codes), ATO, and CTC, corresponding to the signaling upgrade.
  • Removal of existing electrification in the Canillejas – Casa de Campo section and the installation of a rigid catenary system and associated elements suitable for operation at 1500 Vdc.
  • Overhaul of the Ruben Dario Traction Center.
  • Overhaul of the Quintana Traction Center.
  • Installation and power lighting in the tunnel on Line 5.
  • Installation of TETRA digital trunked radio-telephony system on Line 5.

The work included in the scope of this contract will be carried out prior to the service cut-off planned for the summer of 2017, during the period when service is cut off, and after the cut-off, 
and will extend until the commissioning of all of the installations and trains involved.

In addition, it includes the necessary actions to guarantee the coordination of the work of the different concurrent installation companies.
