Design

A study of alternatives will be carried out, followed by the drafting of construction project for the maintenance shop based on the selected alternative.

Inse Rail will draft the construction project for Adif’s first rolling-stock maintenance workshop. This workshop is located in the south of Madrid and will be used for both Adif and Adif High-Speed vehicles.

The workshop will be built in the Madrid Sur infrastructure maintenance sub-base. These facilities are located on the border between Vallecas and Villaverde, where the Madrid-Andalusia and Madrid Levante high-speed lines converge with the Madrid-Barcelona-French Border high-speed line. The conventional line that connects Villaverde Bajo and Santa Catalina with Vallecas also passes through this point, which means that it can be accessed by both international and Iberian gage tracks.

This workshop will provide first-line maintenance on the 22 international gage locomotives that Adif purchased from Stadler for examination, train rescue, snowplowing and infrastructure maintenance.

STUDY OF ALTERNATIVES

First, a study of alternatives will be drafted and the maintenance shop construction project will then be prepared based on the selected alternative.

The different options for the construction of an operational maintenance workshop for both 1435mm and 1668mm-gage units will be analyzed. The same functions and possible operations will be provided for both gages, and the workshop will later be connected to the conventional network over the tracks that are closest to the study area, next to the Mercamadrid facilities.

This study must be detailed enough to foresee all of the particular circumstances that could arise in the subsequent development of the Construction Project and in the execution of the works of the selected alternative, detecting potential technical difficulties and their possible locations, and will also provide an economic estimate of the elements that will form part of the facilities.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The project will include the definition, calculation and budget of the works to build a fully operational workshop and track yard at the Madrid Sur Base for ADIF’s inspection vehicles, locomotives and cars
