TMB’s (Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona) plans to expand its fleet of trains will also require the upgrading and expansion of the workshop areas for the maintenance and infrastructure of trains, equipment and components, and the adaptation of the areas to work safely in order to achieve this increase.
Inse Rail will draft the construction project to upgrade the workshop for the expanded fleet, to meet the specific needs of the rolling stock and meet the challenges involved in the expansion and maintenance of equipment and trains.
Some of the actions planned in the project include feasibility studies and the study of alternatives (to optimize non-railway facilities and existing infrastructure), structural calculations, and the impact on the workshop’s different installations. The project includes the work to design the architecture and civil works, foundations and earthworks, structures, enclosures, pavements, surfacing, drainage installations, low-voltage, ventilation, heating and cooling, high-voltage and medium-voltage installations and track. It also includes the work verify the current conditions, such as surveying and detecting the services that will be affected in the project area.
With this project, Inse Rail adds another important reference to its extensive experience in workshops and railway maintenance bases. It is currently planning ADIF’s first workshop in the Madrid-South maintenance sub-base, and Alstom’s new maintenance base in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. Inse Rail recently designed RENFE’s new Fuencarral II high-speed workshop and the expansions of the workshop for self-propelled trains and the Santa Catalina II maintenance base, and also provided Project Management for the construction and commissioning of the Medina maintenance workshop on the Haramain high-speed line in Saudi Arabia.
