The Iniciativas Bioenergéticas biodiesel plant, located in the municipality of Calahorra (La Rioja), occupies an area of 60,000 square meters, on a plot covering 180,000 square meters, and was designed to produce 250,000 tons of biofuel per year, at a rate of 31.25 tons per hour.

Inse Rail provided the work required to ensure correct execution of the plant works in regard to civil works, mechanical installation of structures as well as piping and equipment, electrical installation, and commissioning of all of the installations and processes.

Inse Rail’s services in this project included the review of the basic and detailed engineering and proposed design modifications, supervision of works, quality and environmental control and assurance, as well as safety and health supervision.

This work was done for the following installations:

• 6 storage tanks with a capacity of 51,000 m3:
• 1 methanol tank with a capacity of 2,800 m3
• 19 tanks for subordinate and reactive products.
• Processing building where the degumming and transesterification equipment is located.
• Auxiliary building that includes: boiler fueled by natural gas or diesel, compressed air system, and water treatment plant.
• Wastewater treatment plant.
• Cooling towers.
• Zone for loading-unloading finished products and raw materials: shelter and loading and unloading arms.
• Nitrogen supply system
• Scales at access and exit control
• Truck cleaning plant
• Office building, housing laboratories, control room and control room annex, and a warehouse workshop.
• Urban development, roads, vehicle and truck parking areas.
• Fire-protection system inside buildings and outside of the plant.
• Sewer and drainage networks.
• Electrical installation: lighting, power, and grounding network.
• Control and communication system in the plant.
