Remodeling project for the logistics center of Valencia – Fuente de San Luis. 1st phase.
ADIF
Country: Spain
Year: 2021- 2022
The main purpose of this expansion is to provide the terminal with the necessary infrastructure and services to turn it into a large rail freight logistics area in Valencia to complement the existing ones in the port and thus boost intermodal freight traffic.
Inse Rail has drawn up the construction project to undertake the first phase of the expansion, remodeling and improvement of the Valencia-Fuente de San Luis intermodal terminal, which is part of the network of strategic intermodal nodes with which Adif seeks to fully integrate rail into the transport chain.
The main purpose of this expansion is to provide the terminal with the necessary infrastructure and services to turn it into a large rail freight logistics area in Valencia to complement the existing ones in the port and thus boost intermodal freight traffic, creating resilient and sustainable infrastructure and helping to reduce the carbon footprint of freight traffic.
The terminal expansion project includes the following actions:
- The existing railway infrastructures (superstructure, electrification and safety and communications facilities) were expanded to put into service an intermodal terminal consisting of a logistic bundle with 4 tracks of 750 m of useful length and mixed gauge, intended for container loading and unloading operations. It also includes the slabs for container stockpiling, gantry crane runways, a management building, truck waiting area and light vehicle parking, and associated facilities such as enclosures, lighting, sanitation, drainage and power supply.
- New 4-track locomotive parking beam.
- New urbanization of roads and accesses to the terminal, allowing connection between the different functional areas and to the external road network.
- Installations associated with the urbanization works that allow the commissioning with full functionality of the project, such as sewage, drainage, electricity supply, lighting, drinking water supply and the civil works under the roads of the fire protection network.
- Replacement of affected services in the area of execution of the works, highlighting the construction of arches to facilitate the maintenance of the municipal South Sewer Outfall and the protection of the crossings by means of concrete slabs.
The intermodal and logistics terminal at Valencia Fuente de San Luis has a strong international dimension. It is located in the Mediterranean Corridor, next to the Puerto de Valencia, and forms part of the Trans-European Transport Network. It constitutes a key strategic node that favors interconnection, interoperability and intermodality of transport services, which will enable the circulation of standard gauge trains between Valencia and the French border. In addition, this terminal is linked to the development of the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) of the Port of Valencia and Mercavalencia.
