Preparation of the Informational Study “Urban Integration of the Chinchilla-Cartagena Line in Alcantarilla and Javalí Nuevo” (Murcia).

The action is included within the different actions covered in the Infrastucture, Transport and Housing Plan  TRANSPORT AND HOUSING PLAN. PITVI (2012- 2024), which is aimed at modernizing the railway in order to continue to guarantee a safe, competitive and efficient mode of transport, at the service of society.

For the development of the PITVI, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, through the General Sub-Directorate of Railway Planning, has designated INSE RAIL to provide the planning and organization of this area of the territory by defining alternative routes, routes that improve railway functionality and eliminate, on the one hand, the barrier effect and the acoustic disturbances that the presence of the railway generates in population centers and, on the other hand, the risks in connection with the existing urban grade crossings in this section of the line.

INSE RAIL’s role in this assistance is therefore to provide a comparative multi-criteria analysis and environmental impact assessment of the different routes to determine the alternative that makes it possible to establish, based on the existing conditions, the optimal solution for the urban integration of the Chinchilla-Cartagena line, as it passes through Alcantarilla and Javalí Nuevo (Murcia). L/320.

The alternatives that have been developed consist of route variations outside the aforementioned towns and moving the existing route underground. Some of the more significant parameters include: 4 alternative routes and 3 alternative connections between the L/320 and the L/322, lengths of the new route between 7.5 – 8 km, depending on the alternative, presence of tunnels with more than 1 km long, 2 railway viaducts and other 6 structures to provide continuity of roads and adjacent highways, unelectrified track, platform for double track with a gage of 1,668 mm., with maximum slopes of 15%.
