ADIF has awarded Inse Rail the technical assistance contract for the control and supervision of the works to inspect and upgrade the overhead contact line between the Aranguren and Carranza stations and the Carranza substation for the commissioning of the electrification of the section.
The purpose of this contract is to outfit the facilities modern and functional equipment that provides greater reliability and better performance, by replacing the existing equipment in the outdoor installations and the direct-current area, as well as upgrading the protections and control, replacing deteriorated catenary posts and seals.
The project also includes a complete inventory of the condition of the catenary in the Aranguren-Carranza section; tunnel scanning; adaptation of the current catenary with calculations, regulation, running cable and pendulum work; installation of protective visors and fences at tunnel openings and underpasses; inspection of protection at platforms and stations, and elimination of vegetation and pruning along the line to ensure the electrical safety distance from the catenary lines and train clearances.
The upgrade of the overhead contact line in the Aranguren-Carranza section was the final one planned to complete the electrification from Bilbao to Carranza, following completion of the comprehensive reconstruction works of the Callejo and Arroyo tunnels. This project also included the installation of catenary in the tunnels and in the section between them.
