The purpose of the INSE RAIL project is to provide Technical Assistance to the Rolling Stock Engineering Unit of FERROCARRIL METROPOLITÁ DE BARCELONA, S.A.

The Rolling Stock Engineering Unit is part of the Rolling Stock Service of Metro de Barcelona, and is leading several projects for new trains, remodeling and improvement of maintenance, as well as other activities to support the Service, such as Quality, Environment, PRL, Documentation, etc.

The objective of the Rolling Stock Engineering Unit is to function as a facilitator (lead the functional part) and controller (ensure the quality of the application) to Rolling Stock workshops, basically through:

• Standardization of transversal work systems.
• Centralization and dissemination of knowledge, from both internal and external sources.
• Analysis and improvement of safety, reliability, availability and maintainability of trains.
• Coordination of new projects, from the identification the need to commissioning.
• Providing rigorous and reliable advice to the Rolling Stock department.
• Participating as a technical reference in projects of other Departments.

The Technical Assistance activities to be carried out by INSE RAIL are the following:

• Support for the tasks of project management monitoring for new train projects, remodeling and upgrades
• Supervision, control and monitoring of daytime and/or nighttime tests of new train and remodeling projects.
• Supervision, control and monitoring of the investment projects of the Unit.
• Participation in organizational improvement projects.
• Conducting audits.
• Support to the Unit in the area of Quality and Environment.
• Support to the Unit in the area of Occupational Risk Prevention
• Support to the Unit in the area of Railway Safety.
• Support to the Unit in the area of material coding.
• Support to the Unit in the execution of gage clearance studies.
• Participation in maintenance plan improvement projects. (Lean, RCM, …).
• Preparation/revision of reports, calculations, plans, specifications, instructions, procedures, reports, etc.
